Agh! So much work on this one. *cries* I tried out a lot of new techniques and methods, experimenting a lot. No outlines for one, and each character is colored differently to catch their appearance better, so that was a headache, but in the end this was lots of fun to do.
There are many Celnas, and there is only one Celna. She is an Angelic Avatar, Shadow Priest, FoMarl, and Pokemon Trainer, among other things. She sure is talented! This is her and her team. As you can see, these pokemon are not draw to Ken Sugimori specifications and have been adapted into my own artform to fit within my vision of the Pokemon world. Realizing a Jigglypuff was VERY hard, but I think I hit a proper balance of cartoony cuteness and realism, even gave him a nose. Scyther has evolved (hah!) quite a bit since I last drew him. I even came up with brief character biographies for this image! I wound up really liking these characters, maybe I'll do a fanfic? Hmmm... Could be good writing practice. Anyhow, here ya go:



Celna Anne Vayxiis -
Celna is a cheerful fifteen year old girl who has just begun her life as a pokemon trainer. Bulbasaur, her ever faithful companion, has been her inseparable friend for years even before starting their adventure. He was a gift from her father for her tenth birthday, in the hopes she would aspire to be a trainer. Her father is a skilled and rather famous pokemon trainer mostly living abroad, chasing pokemon tournaments and engaging leagues the world over, sending his winnings back home to care for his large family. Her mother stays at home caring for the children and working a steady job, but she misses her husband terribly. While Celna’s dad does occasionally come back home, he tends to send back money and trinkets of affection instead when the opportunity arises, in order to save the expense of travel and be a better provider. Celna decides during his latest visit that she needs to have her dad come back home permanently and confronts him about it. Unfortunately, his winnings keep the family afloat and training and battling with his pokemon is all he’s good for, but he admits that if he could stay home, he would. Celna seizes the opportunity, brokering a deal that should she become a great pokemon trainer, and beat her father in a prize tournament, she’ll take his place out in the world of pokemon and he’ll go home. After her father leaves home to once again battle for prize money Celna embarks on her own journey with Bulbasaur to capture and train pokemon for the sake of her family. She dislikes putting her pokemon into their pokeballs, she enjoys their company, and only puts them inside when they need to be.

Bulbasaur -
To Bulbasaur there is only one thing in the entire world: Celna. She’s been there ever since he hatched from his egg and she has never left his side. He would die to defend her from any danger. They’re so used to each other’s habits and thoughts that they have little need to communicate their intentions to each other, even in a battle. He carries himself as the de facto team leader, doing his best to make sure that the other pokemon are up to taking on the tasks that lie ahead.

Pachirisu -
Pachirisu was Celna’s first capture. Celna distracted him with a false gesture of kindness and Bulbasaur struck him over the back of the head pretty hard by surprise. He doesn’t seem to remember this, and happily tags along with his new friends, whoever they are. Pachirisu is also prone to quirkiness and random bouts of insanity, probably resulting from the blow. On the other hand, his resulting sporadic and completely illogical approach to combat can be beneficial, and he’s good for a laugh.

Aron -
Aron is all business, obsessed with victory at any cost but not above enjoying her handiwork. She has a healthy rivalry with Bulbasaur, and is always happily trying to one up him in the eyes of Celna, gleefully charging into any battle. Aron seems to think she’s bigger than she really is.

Jigglypuff -
It was an impressive battle, but Jigglypuff was no match for Celna’s protective earphones and blaring techno riffs. Fascinated by the device, he allowed her to capture him. Since then, Jigglypuff has enjoyed his new friends and adventures, and every night he sings the team a lullaby and then helps himself to the wonders of Celna’s headphones and MP3 player.

Wooper -
Poor wooper seems to be the recipient of every unfortunate circumstance. Although a powerful pokemon his constant mishaps cause him to doubt himself, perpetually enforcing his own misfortune. When driven to the edge of desperation and fear Wooper tends to pull through in spectacular fashion but then becomes depressed at his inability to readily call upon his power, furthering his problems.

Scyther -
Scyther was once violent and ruthlessly territorial, a ferocious and unmerciful hunter bent on survival. When Celna entered his territory unknowingly he viciously attacked her in the night, easily defeating the combined might of all of her pokemon until only Bulbasaur remained. While Bulbasaur was clearly no match for the powerful pokemon, he would not back down and let Scyther get to Celna. Nearly eviscerating him but still unable to put him down, Scyther began to admire Bulbasaur’s devotion to his trainer as he refused to go into his pokeball in order to continue the fight. Curious as to what qualities the young girl possessed to make a pokemon willing to die for her Scyther allowed himself to be defeated in order to join the girl. It didn’t take long for Scyther to realize he’d made the right choice. Living a life better than any the rugged pokemon has ever had before, he is now perhaps Celna’s fiercest, and most dangerous defender and admirer, and holds Bulbasaur with the upmost respect as a true warrior.


This took weeks, since I've been doing it between work, school, sleeping, eating, watching TV, my animation project, and playing Pokemon. Finally, done! I'm so happy! Tra lala! *Dances off into a magical forest of happiness only he can see within his closet which is really an interdimensional portal of awesomeness*
